Favorite memories

Some of the most memorable times in our lives often involve one on one relationships that were warm, loving and harmonious. It may have been a day at the beach with your three-year-old child. The conversation may have been confined to little squeals of delight as she discovered shells and sand crabs. Somehow, the sun was just warm enough, the breeze soft, and the sky an azure blue. The idyllic mood was enhanced by the tender loving feelings that flowed easily between mother and child

Your favorite memory may center on your first love. This intelligent person who laughed at your jokes, seemed to understand what you meant to say instead of the actual words, and selected the same food you were ready to order. Is there a more delicious feeling than finding someone who is a lot like you but with a delightful difference?

All you have to do is substitute your own memory that brings a smile to your lips and a song in your heart. My question for you is this, “Did it last? Were you able to remember the good times when the child wore your best shoes outside in the rain? At what point did that first love bore you to death because they were so much like you that there were no surprises and no sparks?

One of the important aspects of my job as an Astrologer is to act as “interpreter”. I help translate the language of astrology into real life.  Often the goal is to help my client understand how to bring more harmony into an existing relationship with a child, parent, lover or life mate. As I have previously mentioned in the Insights article, “Relationships: Defining Your Needs”, one goal is to get your intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs met. I offered a few suggestions about how one might go about reaching this lofty goal.

Comparing the planet Mercury and its astrological sign and complex of aspects with the Mercury of another person can be very revealing in judging where communication takes place and where it breaks down. Mercury is the symbol for the way you think, process information and communicate with those around you. If Mercury was “retrograde” (apparent motion moving backward against the signs) at your birth, it creates a real dilemma in trying to make yourself understood. A close connection between Mercury and the Moon can create confusion because of the mixing of logic and emotions when you become upset. None of these factors is insurmountable if you understand the difference between your way of expressing your thoughts and the person with whom you are trying to communicate.

For example: Many years ago, when I was a novice, I was struggling to grasp why my client had so many wonderful aspects between her chart and that of her love interest and still had one misunderstanding after another. The Venus/Mars connection made it clear that they would be romantically and sexually drawn to each other. A nice aspect between the Sun in one chart and Venus in the other was a further indication of genuine affection. When I discussed this with one of my mentors, she asked, “Can they talk to each other?” Of course they can talk. At this point she began to explain that many factors in the chart would indicate what each person expects a particular word to represent. If I say ‘money’ I connect it to my family values. (The sign Cancer on my money house indicates that money and the way my family handled money is a factor). I may be talking to a partner who feels that there will always be plenty of money. (Jupiter or the sign Sagittarius linked to the money house). Same word; different meaning.

I began to realize that values, identity (who we believe our selves to be) family messages, ego needs and emotional attachments to certain kinds of behavior could either enhance the communication or in some cases block it altogether. We are all very complex individuals and go about our daily lives doing the best we can to maintain harmonious relationships with those with whom we interact every day. As one author points out, we really do come with instructions or an “operating manual”. It is called a birth chart. Learning to use this information can help you capture more of those memorable, unforgettable moments.
